The Charity first came to Adelaide in 1991, when the Allan Campbell Building at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital was refurbished. The centre provided day haematology and oncology treatment for children and was, at the time, Adelaide’s first Ronald McDonald House. In the background, plans were afoot to raise funds for the bigger picture of building a ten bedroom accommodation facility within walking distance to the Hospital. In January 2000, the first official Ronald McDonald House was opened. The Board continued to support the treatment facility and was renamed Ronald McDonald Children’s Clinic.
In 2006, the Ronald McDonald House Board of Management embarked on a building program to enable the House to cater for an additional 10 families. Furthermore, the style of accommodation was more suitable for families staying longer than three months. In 2011, the Ronald McDonald House Apartments were opened, enabling the House to accommodate 20 rural families every night of the year.
Our voluntary Board of Management consist of representatives from the Women’s & Children’s Health Network, our McDonald’s family and the community sector.

Ronald McDonald House is one of the most respected children’s charities in Australia. We work collaboratively with our partners to identify their needs and present opportunitiesthat will ensure the partnership is sustainable, provides shared value and creates results with positive impact.
Each partnership is tailored to meet the needs of each partner, but our successful partnerships are structured to include at least two of the following three areas:

- Staff/Employee Involvement
Payroll Giving gives your employees the opportunity to make a pre-tax donation direct from their regular pay. Some organisations choose to match ‘dollar for dollar’ contributions made by employees, increasing the impact of an individual’s decision to donate.
A small pre-tax donation from many has a big collective impact.
DONATIONS IN KIND
A facility like our House requires an enormous amount of upkeep. We are constantly purchasing and replacing household items and our families are responsible for food provisions and personal toiletries. Practical assistance in this regard, may be an option for your organisation to consider.
STAFF ENGAGEMENT AND VOLUNTEERING
Engaging in a team activity, like volunteering, not only benefits the House but drives greater employee engagement by inspiring staff, building morale and encouraging creativity. Corporate volunteering is a valuable way to team build, and it also demonstrates your organisation’s commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility.
Ronald McDonald House Adelaide offers many corporate volunteering activities – catering for various skills and capabilities of each group, and all of which directly benefiting families with seriously ill children.
