RMHC Western Australia history

Welcome to Ronald McDonald House Charities Western Australia.

We are an independent, not-for-profit organisation dedicated to providing vital programs for families with seriously ill children.

About Our Chapter

Our Chapter introduced the very first Ronald McDonald House in Western Australia in Subiaco in 1990. While our original House is no longer running, since then, we have opened the doors to our state-of-the-art 47 bedroom House in Nedlands, and a 14 bedroom House inside Perth Children’s Hospital. We have supported sick children and their families for over 29 years.

Through our accommodation and support services, we strive to keep families together when life gets turned upside down due to a child’s illness.

Our Ronald McDonald Houses and Programs are run by a tirelessly hard working team of staff and volunteers, aided by the generous support of our donors, sponsors and corporate partners.

Our programs

We are an independent, not-for-profit organisation dedicated to providing vital programs for families with seriously ill children.

Houses

Our Houses provide a homely and inviting place to stay for parents, guardians, carers and their siblings while their child is undergoing treatment in Perth Children's Hospital.

Family Rooms

Our Ronald McDonald Family Rooms are exclusively for the families of children undergoing treatment in a nearby ward. Run by our friendly volunteers, our Family Rooms are welcoming spaces where you can take time out from the clinical environment of the wards, have a tea or coffee, freshen up with a shower or find a quiet space for a much-needed nap. Our Family Rooms also have dedicated play areas so the siblings of seriously ill children can have a bit of fun.

Family Retreats

Our Family Retreats provide a peaceful getaway from the everyday, where families can simply be together in a tranquil setting. Families can enjoy up to a week of free accommodation, offering a welcome escape for those who might otherwise be unable to afford any time out due the pressures of caring for a seriously ill child.

Learning Program

The Ronald McDonald Learning Program assists school-aged children with serious illnesses and injuries to catch up on missed education following treatment and recovery. Providing a suite of educational support services, including therapy sessions and one-on-one tutorials with experienced teachers, our Ronald McDonald Learning Program is tailored to students’ individual needs. We aim to build each child’s confidence and self-esteem in preparation for their return to the classroom. All services are free to families thanks to funding from our generous RMHC supporters.

Fundraise for Us

The generosity and connection of the Western Australian community continues to be the driving force behind the success of Ronald McDonald House Charities WA.

Our Community Fundraisers are amongst our most remarkable supporters, raising funds in countless ways – but doing it their way, initiating and organising their own event/activity, for seriously ill children and their families.

What people can and will do is limited only by their imagination and motivation! Events can be big or small, one day or one year long, indoors or outdoors – with a list of ideas from A-Z, community fundraising is anything you want it to be.

Plan a party, dress up for a day, organise a sports event or simply gather some friends. If none of that tickles your fancy, you can dream up your own event or give us a call - we can brainstorm some ideas together.

Join our family of community supporters and help make every day a bit brighter for seriously ill children and their families.

Volunteer

"We are very fortunate to have volunteers that we can count on and whose selfless spirit helps the families of our House every day."

We always need more helping hands to assist us in the everyday operations of the House, our Family Room and fundraising events. If you’re interested in volunteering for a charity and want to make a difference in the lives of others, we would love to hear from you.

Volun-TEEN

Ronald McDonald House Charities Western Australia recognises the value and skill sets of young people in our community. We aim to provide extraordinary experiences to allow them to thrive whilst supporting sick children and their families across WA.

The RMHC WA Volun-TEEN program engages young people who are unable to visit our spaces due to age or location. We offer five key modules to suit all interests and talents and we welcome your creative ideas!

Please register your interest here or contact us for more information volunteers.wa@rmhc.org.au

Adopt-A-Room

We are there to support the ever-changing needs of seriously ill children and their families, and you can be too! We have a unique opportunity, through our Adopt-A-Room Sponsorship, where you can be accountable for keeping a family together and close to the medical care their child needs. By adopting a room, you can provide a family with the opportunity to recharge and get the necessary rest so they can offer the strongest support possible to their child. If you or your organisation are looking for a rewarding sponsorship opportunity this is it! By becoming an Adopt-A-Room Sponsor, you can help provide families with a safe haven in their time of crisis.

Download our Adopt-A-Room Brochure for more information.

Home For Dinner

Our Home For Dinner program invites corporate and community groups to cook an evening meal for the families staying at the House. Ronald McDonald House provides a ‘home away from home’ for regional WA families who have a sick child receiving hospital treatment in Perth.

Families often return to the House after a long day by their child’s hospital bed and cooking a meal may be the last thing on their minds. That’s where you and your team can help, making the lives of our families that little bit easier by alleviating excess stress during the hardest time in their life.

Our House is fitted with a commercial kitchen and a full time chef to provide you with professional catering support. We provide the kitchen, food and support, you provide the work force. By simply preparing a homemade dinner for our families, you can ease the burden of their difficult journey.

We have two other morning cooking programs, Lovin’ from the Oven and The Big Breakfast, both of which invite groups to either bake a selection of scrumptious treats or cook a tasty breakfast to fuel our families for the challenging day ahead.

So join us, cook with love and help our families feel at home. We can ensure you’ll have an enjoyable and rewarding experience, all whilst making the lives of our families that little bit easier.
