RM Family Room John Hunter
Take a break from the wards and hospital routine
Visiting the Family Room
Take a break and be together as a family at the Ronald McDonald Family Room at John Hunter Children’s Hospital.
Our Ronald McDonald Family Room is a refuge for you and your family while visiting or staying with a child in hospital. Step away from the ward and into our inviting Family Room where there’s a lounge area, nap room and kitchen, bathroom and laundry facilities as well as space for the kids to play.
Our Ronald McDonald Family Room is run by a dedicated team of staff and volunteers, all under the leadership of Family Room Coordinator Rohan Bingham.
We want to make sure families have a home-away-from-home inside Hospital. That’s why our Family Room is free and open to the families of children receiving treatment in wards J1, J2, H1, NICU, PICU, Nexus and Paediatric Outpatient Clinics.
Ronald McDonald Family Rooms are free of charge. Thanks to generous donations from the community, families have a space away from the wards to recoup and simply be together.

Family Room Facilities
Our Ronald McDonald Family Room is a refuge for you and your family while visiting or staying with a child in hospital. Step away from the ward and into our inviting Family Room where there is a kitchen, bathroom and laundry facilities. For the comfort of our families, we have a cosy lounge area, a quiet room for rest and relaxation, as well as space for the kids to play. By giving your kids some much needed space to play, we’re making the time your family spends in hospital just that little bit easier.
We’ve made our Family Room as homely as possible. That’s why you’ll find a kitchenette with a microwave and a supply of tea, coffee and basic essentials, a fridge for storing your own food and a microwave for heating up meals.
Our quiet room lets you catch up on sleep or spend some time in quiet reflection.
Bathroom and Laundry facilities
Our bathroom includes a shower and toiletries for freshening up as well as a fully-equipped laundry with complimentary laundry powder.
We’ve also created a small play space with toy and activities for children, helping to make your family’s time in hospital that little bit easier.
