Our People

Ronald McDonald House provides a helping hand when it’s needed most.  We can do this because of the support we receive from the many volunteers who help us keep the House open for families who need us, 24 hours a day, every day of the year.  We have two staff, so we rely on over eighty dedicated volunteers to be there for support day in, day out.

We simply could not do what we do without our volunteers. They understand that the families who walk through our door are in the middle of a challenging time and often str    uggling to cope.

Volunteers help us make the House a home.  They keep the House looking good & running smoothly. They clean rooms and make up beds, stock the pantry, help with administration or maintenance jobs, tend the rooftop garden, cook a batch of biscuits, read to a child, make a cuppa and lend an ear or a shoulder to cry on.  Some stay overnight or come in on weekends to make sure the House functions well when staff aren’t around.

Being a volunteer with us is a chance to make a difference, to be just the right person, at just the right time for someone in need.

‘To do something, however small, to make others happier and better, is the highest ambition, the most elevating hope, which can inspire a human being’

John Lubbock

Board members are volunteers too. They are the people who ensure we have enough money in the bank to keep our doors open. As accountants, lawyers, business owners and health professionals, they give of their time and bring a range of skills and expertise to the Board table to oversee our financial sustainability, to ensure we are compliant with all the rules and regulations of running a charity and to plan for our future development.
