Our Facilities NEWCASTLE, NSW

With 12 family bedrooms with ensuites and 6 self contained units, we comfortably accommodate the smallest to the largest family. Whether it is an overnight stay or a home for many months, we strive to create a home-like environment with a particular focus on ensuring the quality of family life is not compromised.

Providing plenty of space for all family members, our rooms offer small private balconies and a full ensuite bathroom. This gives families the option to enjoy privacy if they wish or to mingle with other families in the communal parts of the House. Each room also provides a TV, fans, and air conditioning with linen supplied and laundered. A special lovingly created welcome pack awaits each child, a gift from our knitters within the community.

For those calling us home for extended periods, we have self contained units that provide the opportunity for families to establish their lives and belongings. Families with a child receiving treatment, who is residing in the House with their family, may need special care or isolation. These units allow them to stay together through their treatment journey. One unit is purpose built to accommodate wheelchairs.

The kitchen is the heart of a home and so is ours. Multiple families can happily mingle in the fully equipped kitchen. All families have allocated fridge, freezer and pantry space to allow storage of food items they have brought into the House. And for families who arrive unexpectedly, there is always food on hand from pancakes at breakfast, through to Steggles chicken products in the freezer.

Our House is a happy home for children when there is a special playroom and indoor playground to fill their days. Watching movies whilst cuddled up on the big lounges, art and craft tables, toys, books, video games and rocking horses too.

Our commercial grade washing machines and dryers are provided free of charge for families to use. Laundry detergent is supplied along with an outside clothes line if needed.

The children staying at our House can escape to the backyard adventure playground which is covered by a waterproof shade sail so they can play in any weather. Adding to the sense of adventure, our play area features a pirate ship themed play fort, with pram and wheelchair friendly soft fall bike track, grassed play area for under 5’s and hammock swing for children with special needs.

Families can relax and reconnect with friends and relatives in our outdoor BBQ area. A commercial grade double burner BBQ and multiple outdoor settings allow families to enjoy their own personal space, but also the chance to socialise with other families if they wish. The surrounding tranquil gardens offer a place of peace and reflection.

For families coming from near or far, we have transport covered. There is free car parking onsite, bus nearby and taxi at the door, helipad in the hospital grounds and statewide train service 5 mins drive away. The John Hunter Children’s Hospital is an easy 5 minute stroll across the grounds.
