South East Queensland Overview

Our houses RMH Herston and RMH Mater.

Our Mission
To provide a home away from home and supportive programs for seriously ill children and their families.

Our Vision
RMH SEQ strives to provide a safe and caring community in creating a home away from home and supportive programs to enhance the lives of seriously ill children and their families.

What we do
When a family is faced with the sudden emergency of a seriously ill child needing specialist medical treatment not available at their regional district hospital, they find themselves in an unfamiliar city facing trauma and events that are overwhelming. Ronald McDonald House South East Queensland allows families to stay together in a homelike environment at a fraction of the cost of a motel room, for as long as they need to, thereby helping to preserve the family unit  in the midst of physical, emotional and economic stress. It also offers parents the chance to draw hope and comfort from other families in similar situations whilst being supported by dedicated friendly staff and volunteers.

There are 14 Ronald McDonald Houses currently in operation in Australia. Ronald McDonald House South East Queensland has 2 houses operating in Brisbane, one located next to the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital and close to the Royal Children's Hospital at Herston, and a second house at South Brisbane situated near the Mater Children's Hospital within the Mater Health Services campus.

We offer a 'home-away-from-home' for the families of seriously ill children who are being treated at the major hospitals in Brisbane. We provide accommodation for families from regional areas, interstate and even overseas. Length of stay can be anywhere from one night to months and even years.

RMH Mater  was the first Ronald McDonald House to be opened in Brisbane, in July 1990 with eight bedrooms and shared facilities. After refurbishment and an extension in 2006, the Mater House now has 21 rooms with ensuite bathrooms.
RMH  Herston, was opened in September 1995 and following extensions in 2002 we are able to accommodate 50 families, each with their own room. Currently, Herston is the largest Ronald McDonald House in the southern hemisphere.
In 2009 Ronald McDonald House Herston and Ronald McDonald House Mater amalgamated boards and forming Ronald McDonald House South East Queensland INC. sharing one governing board and key operational staff.

Ronald McDonald Houses are funded through generous donations from businesses, community groups and individuals. See our fundraising tab for options on how you can help the house continue to accommodate families.
In all Ronald McDonald House SEQ has been a home away from home to more than 40,000 families.
