Ronald McDonald House South East Queensland’s mission is to provide a home away from home and supportive programs for seriously ill children and their families.
A home-away-from-home to more than 40,000 families
When you learn your child has a serious illness, it is an enormous shock. If the child requires sudden specialist medical treatment not available in their regional hospital, it adds yet another layer of trauma and significant logistics to consider.
Ronald McDonald House South East Queensland provides accommodation for the families of seriously ill children who live more than 50km from the treating hospital in Brisbane. Ronald McDonald Houses help to preserve the family unit in the midst of physical, emotional and financial stress and also gives parents the chance to draw hope and comfort from other families in similar situations, while being supported by dedicated and friendly staff and volunteers.
Ronald McDonald House South East Queensland has two houses in Brisbane, one at Herston beside the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital and the Royal Children’s Hospital and one at South Brisbane next to the Mater Children’s and Mater Mothers Hospitals. With the Opening of the new Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital at South Brisbane in 2015, a new Ronald McDonald House is being built at South Brisbane to accommodate families into the future.
