RMHC VIC & TAS history

Welcome to Ronald McDonald House Charities Victoria & Tasmania.

We are an independent, not-for-profit organisation dedicated to providing vital programs for families with seriously ill children.

About Our Chapter

Since we opened our very first Ronald McDonald House in Victoria in 1986, our Chapter has expanded to provide essential services in Melbourne, regional Victoria and Hobart. We have supported sick children and their families for over 30 years. Through our accommodation and support services, we strive to keep families together when life gets turned upside down due to a child’s illness. Our Ronald McDonald Houses and Programs are run by a tirelessly hard working team of staff and volunteers, aided by the generous support of our donors, sponsors and corporate partners.

Our programs

We are an independent, not-for-profit organisation dedicated to providing vital programs for families with seriously ill children. Our chapter run a range of support programs across Victoria and Tasmania including our Houses, Family Rooms and Learning Program.

Houses

Our Houses provide a homely and inviting place to stay for parents, guardians, carers and their siblings while their child is undergoing treatment in Victoria or Tasmania.

Family Rooms

Our Ronald McDonald Family Rooms are exclusively for the families of children undergoing treatment in a nearby ward. Run by our friendly volunteers, our Family Rooms are welcoming spaces where you can take time out from the clinical environment of the wards, have a tea or coffee, freshen up with a shower or find a quiet space for a much-needed nap. Our Family Rooms also have dedicated play areas so the siblings of seriously ill children can have a bit of fun.

Learning Program

The Ronald McDonald Learning Program assists school-aged children with serious illnesses and injuries to catch up on missed education following treatment and recovery. Providing a suite of educational support services, including therapy sessions and one-on-one tutorials with experienced teachers, our Ronald McDonald Learning Program is tailored to students’ individual needs. We aim to build each child’s confidence and self-esteem in preparation for their return to the classroom. All services are free to families thanks to funding from our generous RMHC supporters.

Fundraise for Us

What could be more fulfilling than bringing people together to transform the lives of the families who need our help?

Fundraising is an easy, meaningful and fun way to raise money. From sausage sizzles and trivia nights, to raising money on personal celebration days in lieu of gifts, you can give the gift of togetherness to families with seriously ill children.

So what’s the first step?

It’s never been easier. Simply start an online RMHC Group Give Fundraiser and let your network know about it!

Please contact us as at victas@rmhc.org.au to find out more.

Volunteer

Our volunteers are an invaluable asset to the House and are actively involved in a number of roles from housekeeping to administration and special events to cooking food for our families.

Adopt A Room

Adopting a room is a unique opportunity to assist us in providing the highest level of comfort possible to our families. The proceeds of your adoption allow us to cover the costs associated with that room, including linen, electricity, maintenance, etc.  Your adopted room will bear a plaque with your name on it, and we will keep you up-to-date with news, events and invitations to the exciting things happening at our Houses.  For more information, please contact us at victas@rmhc.org.au

Group Volunteering

Make a Meal - Our Make a Meal dinner program gives families a welcome break from preparing a meal and having to wash up, and gives them the chance to spend some quality time together.

Baking with Love - Baking with Love gives our families a lovely home baked treat to brighten their day. Teams can bake and cook up a range of sweet and savoury treats together, before packaging them up for families to snack on.

Made with Love Frozen Meals - Made with Love frozen meals ensures our families have access to healthy, home cooked meals when they need it most.

Working Bee - A Working Bee may involve housekeeping duties such as general cleaning and maintenance tasks, assembly of furniture, organisation/redecoration of spaces, or any other tasks we need assistance with.
