A place to call home
Ronald McDonald House Queensland Children's Hospital
for families with children undergoing care at QLD Children's Hospital
Staying at the house
Ronald McDonald House located inside QLD Children’s Hospital gives seriously ill children the best gift of all – their families. Our House is a warm and supportive home-away-from-home for families of children who are inpatients at the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit.
We are one of the few Ronald McDonald Houses located in the hospital building. Our aim is to give parents and carers of critically ill children peace of mind, knowing that they are close-by to comfort their child whenever they are needed. We are a small but comfortable and modern facility, with 10 guest rooms, beverage bay and communal pantry and a lounge and TV area.
Our tirelessly dedicated team of staff help to make our families feel welcome and supported. Outside of regular hours, the House is managed by the Hospital’s Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) staff.
Who’s eligible to stay with us?
Keeping the family together can be extremely tough without support, which is why we offer accommodation for parents with seriously ill children receiving inpatient treatment in the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit.
Eligibility to stay at Ronald McDonald House QLD Children’s Hospital is determined by medical and social need and is authorised by the PICU team at QLD Children’s Hospital.
We try to accommodate the needs of families where we can, but this is always subject to availability. Priority is given to families whose children have been recently diagnosed, seriously injured or who require emergency treatment.
Ronald McDonald House understands that being away from home for long periods of time can put families under financial pressure. That’s why our accommodation is free for eligible families of seriously ill children.
While our policy is to provide free accommodation, your stay at the House may require you to claim financial support towards accommodation and travel from the relevant government transport assistance scheme in your home state. Our friendly team are happy to work with you to apply for the relevant financial support.
To find out if you’re eligible for government financial assistance, contact your hospital social worker or talk to one of our team.

Our unique accommodation facility is located on Level 5 of the QLD Children’s Hospital close to the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit wards.

While there’s no place like home, we do our best to create an environment that’s as homely as possible. Our House functions as a real home, with everything you need to get through trying times together.
We have 10 cosy guest bedrooms with access to communal bathroom facilities within the House.
TV and Lounge area
Our lounge is a homely space to allow you to get a bit of relief from the sometimes claustrophobic nature of the wards.
During your stay with us, you’ll be able to access all the other facilities available to patients, families and guests at the QLD Children’s Hospital.
