ABOUT US

Ronald McDonald House Wagga Wagga Chapter operates the following program:

OUR HISTORY

In 2001, the Wagga Wagga 93.1 Star FM Breakfast Crew visited the Wagga Wagga Base Hospital Children’s Ward to hand out presents to the children who would be confined to the ward over the Christmas period.

During this visit, they were made aware of the great need for low cost accommodation for parents and siblings of those children hospitalized for a lengthy period of time.

The Children’s Ward had twenty beds. More than half are occupied by children from regional towns and communities up to three hundred kilometres from Wagga Wagga.

Farming accidents, injuries around the home and medical emergencies – these children are transferred to the Wagga Wagga Rural Referral Hospital where they receive intensive specialist care.

Many children spend weeks away from home, their family and friends, away from the things they love and away from the faces they recognise.

Parents with young children travel many hours just to be with their sick child. In addition to the medical expenses and travel costs, many of these parents cannot afford motel accommodation as well.

Ronald McDonald House Wagga Wagga incorporating 93.1 StarFM Kids Kottage provides a much needed home away from home for the many Riverina and South West Slopes families with sick or injured children receiving medical treatment in Wagga Wagga.

Ronald McDonald House Charities Australia acknowledged the need for this facility and agreed to support the Kids Kottage Appeal to form the first regional Ronald McDonald House in Australia.

The House has four bedrooms, kitchen, dining room, lounge room, entertainment room, quiet room, laundry, office and a room for the overnight volunteer.

This allows families to stay together and help each other through hard times and provide some normality in their lives when they are away from home under often difficult and traumatic times.

OUR CHAPTER FUNDRAISING

Fundraising is a very important part of the operation of Ronald McDonald House Wagga Wagga and is ongoing.

We are fortunate to have a small and dedicated Fundraising Committee who organise many events throughout the year to raise funds for the ongoing operation of the House.

Individuals, businesses and organisations are very generous to our House and help us in so many ways.

We are proud to say that every dollar raised for the Wagga Wagga House stays with the House.
