Ways to Help

The Home For Dinner program invites corporate or community groups to cook a homemade dinner for the families staying at Ronald McDonald House. Families often return to the House after a long day by their child's hospital bed and a warm meal helps to ease the burden of their difficult journey. Home For Dinner helps make the lives of our families that little bit easier by alleviating excess stress during a challenging time for them.

Our House is fitted with a commercial kitchen and a full time chef to provide corporate and community groups with professional catering support. We provide the kitchen, food and support – you provide the manpower! We can host groups of up to 10 in our commercial kitchen. Corporate groups are required to make a financial contribution of $770 and community groups are required to make a financial contribution of $500 to cover the costs of ingredients, as we feed up to 100-130 people every evening.

We encourage you to create memories for our families and we're open to suggestions on how you can make dinner time that little bit more special. After dinner is served, we invite you to sit down and spend time getting to know our families. Finish up your evening with a tour of extraordinary home away from home. We can ensure you'll have an enjoyable and rewarding experience, all whilst making the lives of our families that little bit easier. So join us, cook with love and help our families feel at home.

How many people can cook in the kitchen?

We recommend an ideal team of 5-10 people in our commerical kitchen - remember too many cooks spoil the broth! If you have a few extra enthusiastic helpers, please still bring them along - they can assist with dining room prep and perhaps even organise activites for our families!

How many people will we be cooking for?

You will be cooking for approx. 75-100 people but don’t panic our chef will be on hand to assist!

Where can I park?

Parking is available on local streets around the House or at the QEII visitor car parks. More info here

What should we wear?

Pretty please ensure that comfortable clothing and closed shoes (e.g. trainers, boots, pumps) are worn and long hair is tied back. Any team member not wearing the appropriate footwear will be refused entry into the kitchen.

Can I bring my children?

All team members must be over 16 years of age. We appreciate your cooperation and ask you to leave children at home so you can have the full Home For Dinner experience.  Anyone under 18 must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

Can we drink alcohol?

You are able to bring any refreshments including alcohol, provided this is consumed responsibly. Any alcohol must be consumed in plastic cups, NO GLASS.

Can we theme the evening?

Yes most definitely! The night is yours to own, so if you want to theme the night with decorations, wear costumes, provide entertainment or games you are most welcome! This is always a big hit with our families.

How many tables are there in the dining room?

Approx 10-15 depending on set up.

Are we able to play music in the kitchen and dining room?

You certainly can! We want you to have an extraordinary experience!

If Home For Dinner isn't the right fit for your group, there are two other cooking programs you can come in and get involved with, Lovin' from the Oven and the Big Breakfast. We would love to welcome your team through our doors!

The Lovin’ From The Oven program allows groups to spend a morning in our kitchen from 9.30am - 12pm baking a selection of delightful treats for our families to enjoy throughout the day. Your team provides the ingredients, recipes and bakers…We provide the mouths to feed!

The Big Breakfast is a delicious program where groups will provide full ingredients, recipes and manpower. You will take over our commercial kitchen and cook up a fabulous breakfast for our families to enjoy between 9am-10am. This program is only available on weekends and groups will need to arrive at 7.30am for set up and preparation.
