Welcome to Ronald McDonald House Charities Northern NSW

We are an independent, not-for-profit organisation dedicated to providing vital programs for families with seriously ill children.

About Our Chapter

1991 marked the inaugural program for Ronald McDonald House Charities Northern NSW, with the opening of Ronald McDonald House Newcastle. Since then, we have opened another Ronald McDonald House in Tamworth as well as three Family Rooms and our Ronald McDonald Family Retreat Forster, allowing us to help thousands of sick children and their families across almost 30 years. Through our accommodation and support services, we strive to keep families together when life gets turned upside down due to a child’s illness. Our Ronald McDonald Houses and Ronald McDonald Family Rooms are run by a tirelessly hard working team of staff and volunteers, aided by the generous support of our donors, sponsors and corporate partners.

Our programs

We are an independent, not-for-profit organisation dedicated to providing vital programs for families with seriously ill children.

Ronald McDonald House®

Our two Ronald McDonald Houses provide a homely and inviting place to stay for parents, guardians, carers and their siblings while their child is undergoing treatment in Northern NSW.

Ronald McDonald Family Room®

Our Ronald McDonald Family Rooms are exclusively for the families of children undergoing treatment in a nearby ward. Run by our friendly volunteers, our Family Rooms are welcoming spaces where you can take time out from the clinical environment of the wards, have a tea or coffee, freshen up with a shower or find a quiet space for a much-needed nap. Our Family Rooms also have dedicated play areas so the siblings of seriously ill children can have a bit of fun.

Ronald McDonald Family Retreat®

Ronald McDonald Family Retreats provide a peaceful getaway from the everyday, where families can simply be together in a tranquil setting. Families can enjoy up to a week of free accommodation, offering a welcome escape for those who might otherwise be unable to afford any time out due the pressures of caring for a seriously ill child.

Ronald McDonald® Learning Program

The Ronald McDonald Learning Program assists school-aged children with serious illnesses and injuries to catch up on missed education following treatment and recovery. Providing a suite of educational support services, including therapy sessions and one-on-one tutorials with experienced teachers, our Ronald McDonald Learning Program is tailored to students’ individual needs. We aim to build each child’s confidence and self-esteem in preparation for their return to the classroom. All services are free to families thanks to funding from our generous RMHC supporters.

Fundraise For Us

Our supporters have done some pretty amazing things to raise money to help keep families close.  What will you do?

Here are three simple steps to help get you started.

1. Choose your fundraising event

Whether you're an individual, a school, a community group or an organization, there are lots of ways to raise funds for families with a sick or injured child.  You could hold a trivia night, a mufti day or sausage sizzle.

Visit our fundraising site to begin:

https://fundraise.rmhc.org.au/northern-nsw

2. Set up your online fundraising page

One of the easiest ways to collect funds is through your own online fundraising page. It's easy to do, you can even add your own photos and blog posts. Don't forget to share it with your friends and family and post it on your social media networks to spread the word about the amazing thing you are doing raising funds to help keep families close.

Sponsor A Room

You can help make sure families with a sick or injured child have a safe and supportive place to stay by becoming a room sponsor.

Or you could help a family relax and reconnect with a much needed holiday at the Ronald McDonald Family Retreat in Forster by sponsoring a cabin.

By sponsoring a room or cabin you can ensure the costs associated with running the room or cabin are covered for the entire year.

Each sponsor has their names on a plaque on the door of their sponsored room.

Sponsoring a room or cabin is a great opportunity become part of the Ronald McDonald House NNSW family by helping provide accommodation for families caring for a seriously ill or injured child.

If you are interested in finding our more information on sponsoring a room or cabin, please contact us.

We provide the kitchen and cooking facilities, and you provide the menu, food and enthusiastic chefs!  You'll be rewarded with a fun and meaningful experience knowing that you are making  our families lives a little bit easier.
