Staying With Us
Northern NSW is a big area (over 130 000km2) with the John Hunter Children’s Hospital and other Newcastle health specialists providing the medical care for children from throughout the region. Families residing over 100 km’s from the hospital with a child receiving treatment as an inpatient or outpatient are welcome to stay at Ronald McDonald House. Those who live closer can be referred to our service by their social worker or hospital or medical authority.
CRITERIA TO STAY
When your child is ill, you need to be close. Accommodation is dependent on room availability and families are welcome to contact us directly or through their social worker or medical practitioner if accommodation is required whilst their child receives treatment. Priority is given to those with emergency and life threatening conditions. We can also assist in finding alternative accommodation if required.
ACCOMMODATION & COST ASSISTANCE
A family's’ financial situation shouldn’t matter when a child is ill. Every effort is made to ensure accommodation costs are kept as low as possible and every effort is made to accommodate families regardless of their financial situation. Those residing over 100km’s away are eligible to submit a claim to IPTAAS (Isolated Patients Travel and Accommodation Assistance Scheme) to cover their costs. For those not qualifying for IPTAAS, there is a nominal contribution but no family will be turned away due to inability to pay.
There are no other charges or costs involved in staying at Ronald McDonald House. Basic food items are available for use with families encouraged to purchase further grocery items for personal consumption. Our House has a strict no alcohol policy.
