Our Programs

Ronald McDonald House Monash relies on the generous support of volunteers, individuals, community groups and corporate partners to keep our doors open to families when they need us the most.

Ronald McDonald House Monash provides a home-away-from-home for families caring for a seriously ill child at Monash Children’s Hospital.

In our purpose built House, families share kitchen facilities, a dining room, library and lounge areas, a laundry and a computer area. We offer 13 bedrooms of varying sizes with full bed and bath linen supplied plus two self-contained units.

Families are encouraged to cook their own meals and do their own laundry in order to keep life as normal as possible.

The House is not just a roof over their heads. It provides the comfort and support of others experiencing similar difficulties and sometimes even a home-made meal cooked by volunteers waiting at the end of a hard day.

A car park, courtyard with BBG’s, playground and gardens all contribute to a homely atmosphere where families feel safe and secure, and just a short walk from their child in hospital.

The Ronald McDonald Family Room is a special place within Monash Children’s where families can relax and have ‘time out’ while still being close to their child. It is designed to give family and other primary caregivers respite from the ward environment, especially when they are spending long periods by the child’s bedside.

Our Family Room provides important respite and facilities to families caring for a seriously ill child including kitchen, laundry, lounge room, dining area, nap room, computer/internet and bathroom/shower facilities.

Time out from school when you’re seriously ill shouldn’t mean missing out. The Ronald McDonald Learning Program is the leading educational catch-up program in Australia, helping children recovering from serious illness catch up with missed education.

The Learning Program prevents primary and secondary children from falling behind in their education, dropping out of school and never reaching their full potential. There are two Learning Program Educational Coordinators located at Ronald McDonald House Monash. They link students with tutors to help them catch up on missed schooling.

This year over 1000 children will be supported by the Learning Program across Australia every week including 100 currently managed from Ronald McDonald House Monash.
