About Us

Being so close to the hospital, Ronald McDonald House gives sick children the best gift of all – their family.   A family’s love is powerful medicine and research shows that, with loved ones close by to comfort and reassure them, children heal faster and cope better.

But families also need care and support.  We understand the importance of being together as a family, especially during difficult times. Our House provides a supportive environment to help you cope with the day to day, so you can focus on the needs of your child.

The House welcomes you with all the comforts of home - kitchen, dining, laundry, bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms, plus a range of spaces for play and relaxation, including our stunning rooftop garden with Hobart’s best view of the mountain!  Most importantly of all, there is always a supportive volunteer or staff member there for you 24/7, every day of the year.

The Hobart House supports over 300 families a year from rural and regional Tasmania. Ronald McDonald House provides security, safety and support in what is often the most difficult time of many people’s lives and research tells us that family proximity to the hospital provides important psychological benefits for patients and their families. Thermomix - Tasmanian Branch The Tasmanian branch of Thermomix has chosen Ronald McDonald House Charity to fundraise this year, already raising almost $2000 at the RMHC Ball in August, through a Thermomix that was that was auctioned. A further $3000 is hoping to be raised through this event. One of the Thermomix team leaders in the North West of the state nominated this charity for Thermomix to support, as she spent almost a year living at Ronald McDonald House after her baby was born very early, a priceless gift she remembers and is forever grateful for. " Ronald McDonald House is special to me and close to my hear because I’ve lived there for 129 nights. I’ve been part of the family and supported by the lovely volunteers and fellow residents. 14 years and 9 months ago, I was rushed from my Devonport home to RHH via Royal Flying Doctors Service where I had my baby boy at 29 weeks, he weighed a tiny 530g. Xavier needed special care at the NICU ward for many months. I was fortunate to be able to stay very close to him at no cost through Ronald McDonald house. Myself and my husband will always be extremely grateful for the assistance we received" - Meg Bowden, Team Leader in Devonport for Thermomix in Tasmania.
