FAMILY ROOMS

Spending long hours in an uncomfortable hospital waiting room can add stress to an already emotionally draining experience when you’re visiting a sick child. Sometimes it helps to get away from it all, even if you're just going down the hall.

Our Ronald McDonald Family Rooms are a warm and welcoming home away from home inside the hospital, away from the clinical environment of the wards. Managed by volunteers, the Family Rooms contain lounge areas, sleeping rooms, laundries, cooking facilities and more, meaning there is always somewhere the family can unwind. Whether it’s somewhere for the kids to play or a sanctuary for mum and dad, our Family Rooms are for the whole family.

GOLD COAST UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL RONALD MCDONALD FAMILY ROOMS

Ronald McDonald House South East Queensland opened its first two Ronald McDonald Family Rooms at the start of 2014 at the Gold Coast University Hospital (GCUH). The Ronald McDonald Family Rooms in GCUH are located in the Paediatric Unit and the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).

Children under 18 must be escorted by an adult. The Family Room located in the NICU, also has two bedrooms for emergency family overnight use determined at the discretion of GCUH NICU Staff. The Family Room is open seven days a week from 8am to 8pm thanks to the support from our Volunteers.

Visiting a child in hospital can be an emotionally draining and difficult experience. Sometimes it helps to get away from it all, even if you’re just down the hall. For more information about our Family room please contact FamilyRoomGC@rmh.org.au or phone: (07) 5687 4188.
