RMHC South West NSW history

Welcome to Ronald McDonald House Charities South West NSW.

We are an independent, not-for-profit organisation dedicated to providing a ‘home away from home’ for families with seriously ill children.

About Our Chapter

In 2001 the STAR FM Breakfast Crew visited the Children’s Ward at Wagga Base Hospital and were made aware of the need for low-cost accommodation for parents and siblings of patients on the children’s ward who had to travel for treatment. This grew to the STAR FM Kids Kottage Appeal, raising thousands of dollars to establish a “home-away-from-home” for families with sick or injured children from around the Riverina, South West Slopes and beyond.

RMHC acknowledged the need for the facility and agreed to support the Kids Kottage Appeal to form the first regional Ronald McDonald House in Australia.

The House was built with the fantastic support of the community, with many giving their time to build the House.

Our programs

We are an independent, not-for-profit organisation dedicated to providing vital programs for families with seriously ill children.

Our Chapter runs a range of support programs in Wagga Wagga including our House and Family Room.

Houses

Our House provides a homely and inviting place to stay for parents, guardians, carers and their siblings while their child is undergoing treatment in Wagga Wagga.

Family Room

Our Ronald McDonald Family Room is exclusively for the families of children undergoing treatment in a nearby ward. Run by our friendly volunteers, our Family Room is a welcoming space where you can take time out from the clinical environment of the wards, have a tea or coffee, a snack, freshen up with a shower or do a load of washing.

Host a Fundraiser

What could be more fulfilling than bringing people together to transform the lives of the families who need our help?

Fundraising is an easy, meaningful and fun way to raise money. From sausage sizzles and trivia nights, to raising money on personal celebration days in lieu of gifts, you can give the gift of togetherness to families with seriously ill children.

Sponsor a Room

Without the accommodation services provided by Ronald McDonald House, many families would have to travel long distances, sleep in their cars or in hospital wards and waiting rooms, or otherwise face expensive hotel bills, just to be near their seriously ill child when they are most in need.

You can help ensure families can access a safe and supportive place to stay by becoming a Room Sponsor. Our individual and corporate Room Sponsors provide vital financial support, allowing us to offer families warm beds, hot showers, toys and games for kids, and all the essentials of a real family home.

As a Sponsor, it’s your generosity that keeps our doors open. Each year, we attach a plaque to the door of your room, in recognition of your support.
