Carly's Story

Ronald McDonald Family Room John Hunter was a place to stop and rest

Carly's Story

Carly went into labor at 31 weeks, and was taken to John Hunter Children’s hospital for the birth of her twins Ariel and Cheston. The twins were treated at the NICU in Newcastle and then transferred to the Gosford Hospital special care unit.

As a single mum Carly was daunted by the experience and gained confidence with the help from the community. In the Ronald McDonald Family Room, she took advantage of the rooms washing facilities and enjoying a coffee and a chat. The Family Room was a good place for her to share her experiences with Volunteers and other new mums. As she will be “doing it all”, Carly was keen to hear other parents’ experiences and found that everyone’s story was so different.
