Our Volunteers

The Heart of our Charity

Our Patrons

Adam Gilchrist, retired Australian wicketkeeper, became the Patron of Ronald McDonald House Perth in 2000.  Adam has taken on this role with great dedication, often visiting families at the House and attending RMH functions such as volunteer dinners, charity balls and participating in our charity golf day.

Adam’s easy going nature and caring attitude provides encouragement to everyone he meets and we are very fortunate to have him as our Patron.

Western Force captain Nathan Sharpe signed on as Ambassador of the Ronald McDonald Family Retreats in Bunbury and Jurien Bay, Western Australia in 2007.  ‘’Families experiencing the hardships of having seriously ill children can really benefit from having somewhere to escape to – a relaxing holiday away from the hospitals and illness’, said Nathan.

In addition to Adam and Nathan, Ronald McDonald House is very fortunate to have international golfer Nick O’Hern as Patron of the Nick O’Hern RMH Charity Golf Pro-Am.

This year's event will mark the 11th Anniversary of the golf day and will be held on Tuesday 14 December 2010 at Nick’s personal club, the prestigious Mt Lawley Golf Club.  Stay turned for further details.

House Volunteers

Ronald McDonald House could simply not survive without the ongoing help and support of our Volunteers.  Since the House opened in 1990, volunteers have helped keep our doors open for thousands of families in need. Our high standards of service would not be possible without the Volunteers’ gift of their time and energy.

We need Volunteers to assist our Housekeeper in maintaining the cleanliness of the House e.g. making beds, ironing, mopping and cleaning the accommodation rooms and general areas of the House. We also require Volunteers to assist in manning the Ronald McDonald Family Room on the Oncology Ward at PMH (a parents retreat).

The Family Room is a mini Ronald McDonald House and offers all families (both metro and country) the opportunity to take a break from the stressful hospital environment.  The Volunteers at the Ronald McDonald Family Room take on a range of tasks – from tidying up, to baking muffins or sandwiches, making parents a cup of coffee and being there just to have a chat.

All Volunteers are required to undergo a Working with Children Check and supply details for a national Police Check for Volunteers (forms can be obtained from Ronald McDonald House).

If you would like to become a Ronald McDonald House Volunteer, please email us at ourhouse@rmhwa.com.au or download a Volunteer Application Form on the left.  We hope to hear from you soon!

Make a Meal Volunteers

There is nothing more fun and rewarding than getting together with your co-workers, friends and/or family members to make a meal for the families staying at the Ronald McDonald House Perth. We provide the kitchen – you provide the food and volunteers!

Families often spend all day at the hospital and when they return to the House have very little energy left to prepare dinner. Our Make a Meal program allows volunteers to give families time off by preparing the meal, sharing a meal and cleaning up afterward. The children love meeting new people and the parents appreciate the chance to relax and enjoy a homecooked dinner.

If you would like to register your interest in participating in this fantastic program, please contact us on 9346 9000 or email ourhouse@rmhwa.com.au.

Movies by Burswood Volunteer Opportunities

Movies by Burswood, the movie charity, donates 100% of the profits of each movie season to local charities whose mission is to improve the quality of life of children in a health or physical ability crisis.  Ronald McDonald House Perth is fortunate to be one of the chosen beneficiaries of MbB's generosity for the past five years – having received to date over $200,000.00.

The annual donation received by Ronald McDonald House can be vastly increased through the supply of volunteers who generously provide their time to Movies by Burswood on behalf of our House.  Volunteers are needed one night per fortnight during the season (more if possible) which runs from December to April.  The more volunteers we supply, the bigger the cheque to Ronald McDonald House!

The work can be anything from ground supervision (helping to set up and clean up after), ensuring patrons are safely accommodated, selling raffle tickets, cooking at the sausage sizzle, or working behind one of the counters selling anything from ice creams to popcorn to wine.

For further information about volunteering opportunities at MbB, simply contact us on 9346 9000 or email ourhouse@rmhwa.com.au.  Visit the Movies by Burwood website at www.moviesbyburswood.com.au to learn more about the charity that helps other charities.
