When a family is faced with the sudden emergency of a seriously ill child needing specialist medical treatment not available at their regional district hospital, they find themselves in an unfamiliar city facing trauma and events that are overwhelming.
Ronald McDonald House Mater provides accommodation for families from regional areas, interstate and even overseas. Length of stay can be anywhere from one night to months and years.
The House is situated near the Mater Children's Hospital within the Mater Health Services campus.
The Mater House first opened in July 1990 with eight bedrooms and shared facilities. After refurbishment and an extension in 2006, the Mater House now has 21 rooms with ensuite bathrooms.
In all Ronald McDonald House Mater has been a home-away-from-home to more than 10,000 families.
Our facilities include 21 rooms (four with wheelchair access), an adultlounge area, games room, outdoor playground and BBQ area, internet kiosk, smokers balcony, small car park, laundry facilities, friendly staff and volunteers.
