Criteria to Stay

Who can stay at Ronald McDonald House

Who can stay?
Accommodation is available to families of premature babies, seriously ill children and adolescents as well as mothers with at--risk pregnancies.  We accommodate up to ten families at any one time. Each family is allocated one room and extended family members such as grandparents, aunts and cousins are welcome if there is room, however an additional charge per person applies.

Priority is given to families living beyond greater Hobart.  At times of high demand, it may be necessary to prioritise who can stay and we can’t always guarantee availability even if bookings are made in advance.

What do I need to bring?
We have a fully equipped kitchen and laundry, sitting rooms, play areas, BBQs and a rooftop garden.  Bed linen, towels and basic food items are provided, but you will need to bring your personal items, arrange your own meals, do your own laundry and be responsible for cleaning up after yourself, just like at home.

How do I arrange to stay?
You may be referred by a doctor, hospital staff, social worker or the PTAS Office. You can arrange your own stay by contacting us on 0362 314 877 or via email at  rmhtasmania@bigpond.com

What if it’s for a long time? Can I afford it?
It costs around $50.00 per room per night but most families receive a subsidy through the Patient Transport Assistance Scheme, so you will only pay a minimal amount or nothing at all. Contact your nearest PTAS office: Launceston ph. 6348 7249; Devonport ph. 6421 7797 or Burnie ph. 6434 6984
