Families we help

Families of Seriously Ill Children:

Parents who have a seriously ill child/ children are welcome to stay at Ronald McDonald House. We warmly welcome families from all over Queensland and Papua New Guinea and other states if necessary.

Ronald McDonald House is a family facility therefore Mum, Dad and the kids can all stay together for little or no cost.

Patients who are receiving treatment either as an inpatient or outpatient at the Townsville Hospital or another medical facility in Townsville.


Expectant Mums:

Mothers who are awaiting the birth of their baby/babies who need to be close to medical care prior to the birth.

The Townsville Hospital is the only other hospital in Queensland outside Brisbane that has a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit to care for pre-term and very ill babies.
Mothers and babies are transferred from their base hospital either before the birth or immediately after.

These babies are often in hospital for some weeks or months until they are well enough to be discharged to their home.


The Units:

The units contain a double bed and a king single with a trundle. They can sleep up to five people at a time. They are fully air-conditioned with an ensuite and a patio. Televisions are provided in all rooms.

Linen and towels are provided. The rooms are not serviced and guests are expected to keep their own room clean and are responsible for the washing of their linen.

Cots and baby needs are provided on request.


The Playroom, playground and facilities:

The house contains a playroom, games room, as well as an outside play-land for children to enjoy whilst at the house.
An air-conditioned lounge room is also available.
