Ronald McDonald House Westmead is located in the grounds of the Children’s Hospital at Westmead. The House accommodates only those families whose children are receiving treatment at this hospital and who live 100kms or more away.

While the House attempts to provide a room for all those families travelling to Westmead for treatment, we do have a priority system in place based on (but not necessarily in this order) the size of the family, distance travelled, duration of the illness, urgency of accommodation and room availability at the time.

Our location in the grounds means that families are able to leave the hospital and retreat to the House after long days of treatment. Families are able to come into to a warm, friendly and welcoming environment when they walk through the front door, away from the stresses of the hospital. Outpatients receiving daily treatments are able to stay here with their parents and siblings when not admitted for more intensive treatments, which gives families much valued time together during an incredibly stressful time.

At any one time, 23 families can reside at the House in rooms that all have a private bathroom and that cater for both large and small family arrangements. Should the need arise, other family members, such as grandparents are welcome to stay if directly supporting the family for some or all of their stay. Some treatments require isolation and the House is able to ensure that these families are able to be isolated in rooms that are fully self contained and separate to the House.
